Animal Welfare Institute

AWI's mission for over 50 years has been to reduce the sum total of pain and fear inflicted on animals by humans. AWI tackles a wide variety of issues ranging from helping animals in laboratories and in factory farms, to protecting endangered species. Located in Washington DC, AWI also works to strengthen animal protective legislation and to prevent damaging legislative attempts which would harm animals.

In 1971, AWI launched the Save the Whales Campaign and has been working hard since then to preserve the ban on commercial whaling. AWI also strives to protect marine life from other threats such as human-generated noise and chemical pollution, destructive fishing methods and habitat degradation.
